Can Shields break from Shield surfing?
All shields can be used to shield surf, but each one of them has a different speed depending on the terrain. While surfing on terrains such as snow, sand, or grass causes no damage, shield surfing over rocky or rugged areas will cause damage to the shield, as if it were being hit in battle.
Does shield surfing use durability?
Most shields in the game take 0.25 points of durability per second while surfing, but there are outlier shields with different ratios, from better to worse: Ancient Shield – 0.05 points/sec (amounts to ~10:40 minutes)
How do you slide on a shield?
All Link needs in order to shield surf is a shield, and ideally a nice slope. Press ZL to raise your shield, then tap the X button to jump and then hit the A button to make Link jump into the shield. Assuming there is enough of a slope Link will start to slide down. This is best done at the top of a snowy mountain.
